About Proteopure
Proteopure helps proteomic scientists achieve
superior results in their research. Our goal is to make every proteomic
experiment simpler, faster, and more reliable. Our solution is a family of
sample preparation kits for protein isolation and recovery.
Management
Richard Ekstrom, Chief Executive Officer. He has served as an executive or
consultant for startup and early stage public and private healthcare and
biotechnology companies for over 15 years. The technologies include
therapeutics for infectious diseases, analytical and diagnostic tools, and
genetically engineered crops.
Surya Viswanathan Ph.D., Research Director. Dr. Viswanathan is an expert in
two-dimensional difference gel electrophoresis (2DE-DIGE), mass spectrometry
MALDI/TOF and ESI/TOF, 2-DE gel image analysis, yeast molecular biology, PCR,
and Western blotting. Prior to joining Proteopure, Dr. Viswanathan’s
performed research at Carnegie Mellon University.
Wen Zhou Ph.D., Director of Organic Chemistry. Dr. Zhou previously
performed research at the University of Pittsburgh focusing on proteomics,
amino acid analysis and peptide synthesis.
Advisors
Jonathan Minden Ph.D., Technical Consultant. Dr. Minden is Associate
Professor of Biology at Carnegie Mellon University and the inventor of the
Proteopure technology. Dr. Minden also invented 2D DIGE (two dimensional
differential imaging gel electrophoresis system), now considered one of the
most useful tools in comparative proteomics and marketed exclusively by GE
Healthcare.
David Maskalick Ph.D., Scientific Advisor. Dr. Maskalick is President of
BiotecConnect, Inc., a research and consulting company. Previously he was
Research Scientist at Eli Lilly and Company specializing in protein
purification processes from lab bench, to pilot plant and manufacturing.
Dr. Maskalick discovered and developed methods of ion exchange, affinity,
reverse phase, size exclusion and hydrophobic interaction modes of
chromatographic protein purification.
Board of
Directors
Richard Ekstrom
Thomas Petzinger, Jr., is a founder of LaunchCyte LLC, a
biotechnology incubator that co-founded and provided seed capital to
Proteopure. Mr. Petzinger also serves as chairman of Immunetrics Inc.,
Crystalplex Corp., and Proteopure Inc., and as a director of Reaction
Biology Corp. and Celsense Inc. Prior to co-founding LaunchCyte, he spent 22
years at The Wall Street Journal, where he served as Washington economics
editor, deputy Washington bureau chief, millennium editor, and weekly
columnist. He has written three best-selling business books. He is a
director of the Pennsylvania Biotechnology Association. He received his B.S.
in Journalism from Northwestern University, where he was a Richter
International Scholar.
Ted DeFrank is currently President, Dalton Enterprises, a management
consulting service. Previously he was President and General Manager of
Pierce Biotechnology, a supplier of products for protein chemistry and
sample preparation, sample handling and kits for protein detection; Chief
Operating Officer of Invitrogen, a supplier of proteomic laboratory
supplies; and Vice President of Operations of Stratagene, a supplier of
protein purification and biological reagent products. Mr. DeFrank holds a
degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology from the University of California at
San Diego. Mr. DeFrank also serves on the Boards of Directors of Assay
Designs, Inc., PAGEgel, Inc., and Active Motif, Inc.
